As part of the CCC program, health
professionals and students "role
play" a health care situation.
The activity has been successful in
improving communication between English
language learners and medical professionals.
The
Consumer Cultural Competence
(CCC) in Health Care Settings provides
English language training, cultural
competence, and health care access
education for teens and adults in
the Chicago area. The innovative
curriculum has been implemented in
11 Chicago area high school ESL (English
as Second Language) classes over the
past two years.
During Spring 2008, the CCC program is being implemented in three Chicago Public Schools:
- Roberto Clemente Community Academy
- Stephen T. Mather High School
- Ellen H. Richards Career Academy
Participants
in the CCC program are empowered to
take action, create change, and advocate
for themselves and others in a healthcare
setting.
