Immunization Resources for Schools

Does your school want to learn more about immunizations? IHEC/AHEC will be glad to work with you to bring this important information to your students.

ISOP works with Chicago Public Schools, teaching students and staff about Vaccine Preventable Diseases and promoting immunization for all students. The School Outreach Team has developed and implemented curricula for elementary and high school students, and established a Peer Health Education Program for high school students.

National Resources

American Cancer Society   www.cancer.org
The Chicago Regional Office has developed a toolkit for public and provider education entitled "Get the Facts...about the HPV vaccine for the prevention of cervical cancer."

This association has a comprehensive educational resource available for purchase entitled "Give It a Shot!  Toolkit for Nurses and Other Immunization Champions Working with Secondary Schools."
 
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention   www.cdc.gov/vaccines
The National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases is the U.S. government authority on vaccines and Vaccine Preventable Diseases.  A variety of training modules, videos, and print materials are available through their website.  Some of the CDC's educational resources include: "ABCs of Childhood Vaccines," "Pre-Teen Vaccine Campaign," and the Childhood and Adolescent Immunization Schedules.

CHOP's Vaccine Education Center provides vaccine educational materials for both parents and health professionals.
 
Immunization Action Coalition   www.immunize.org
This website provides immunizaiton educational information in a variety of languages, including Vaccine Information Sheets (VIS) and other copyright free handouts.
 
National Association of School Nurses   www.nasn.org
NASN has a number of resources specifically geared toward school nurses.  Their educational campaigns include:  "Don't Get Sidelined by the Flu," "Get SMART About Meningitis: School Meningitis Awareness Tools," "Give Your Kids a Boost," and "Pertussis Tools for Schools."
 
National Foundation for Infectious Disease   www.nfid.org
This foundation has developed two educational campaigns to promote the Tdap and meningococcal vaccines: "Wipe Out the Whoop" and "STOP Meningitis."
 
National Meningitis Association   www.nmaus.org
This association is focused on increasing awareness about meningococcal disease and has developed a number of educational campaigns including: "Parent Teacher Awareness: Educating About Adolescent Meningitis Prevention" and "Getting It: A Disease...A Vaccine."
